Greeley Ranked #1 in Colorado Fastest Growing City
The Greeley metro area has been ranked as the fastest growing “city” in Colorado by 24/7 Wall Street with a population growth of 32.1% from 2010-2020. For comparison, the population of Colorado grew by 15.5%, and the U.S. population increased by 6.7%. To determine the fastest growing city, 24/7 Wall St. reviewed population data from the U.S. Census Bureau's Population and Housing Estimates Program.
African American Civil Right Grant: Dearfield Dream Project
The University of Northern Colorado has been awarded more than $497,000 by the National Park Service’s African American Civil Right Grants Program to go towards the Dearfield Dream Project. The project is a collaborative research effort to learn more about Dearfield, formerly located east of Greeley and a pre-eminent Black agricultural community established in 1910. Funding will go towards exterior rehabilitation and stabilization of two buildings on the property, the Jackson House and the filling station.
Northridge High School STEM: Sanford I. Weill Award for Excellence
School District 6: Teachers of the Year
Two Greeley-Evans School District 6 teachers have been recognized for their work by the Colorado Association for Career and Technical Education. Chelsea Bernard from Northridge High School was named the Career and Technical Education New Teacher of the Year. Lauren Appelhans from Greeley Central was named the Career and Technical Education Teacher of the Year.
Experimental Aircraft Association: $10,000 Scholarship
William
B. Ramirez has been awarded a $10,000 James Ray aviation scholarship by
the Experimental Aircraft Association
through the Greeley Chapter 1117. Ramirez
will be training at the Blue Sky Flyers Club based at the Greeley/Weld County
Airport. The scholarship supports students, like William, through written and
practical segments of flight training as part of FAA pilot certification.
Weld Rugby: Division II State Champions
Weld Rugby, part of USA Rugby and Rugby Colorado, won the Division II state championship in its first year with a high school program. Weld Rugby, based in Greeley, is one of 20 high school boys teams across the state that play for Rugby Colorado.
FEI Vaulting World Championships U.S. Squad Takes Silver
Congratulations to University School junior Rhianon Hampton for winning a silver medal at the
FEI Vaulting World Championships in the team equestrian vaulting category representing the United States. Equestrian vaulting has been described as gymnastics on horseback. All vaulting routines, in team, individual and freestyle, are performed on the back of a cantering horse traveling in a circle and attached to a lunge line.
